Our Mission:  As the St. John the Evangelist Parish Family, we are to be Christ’s hand that invites and welcomes all who are looking for the caring and spiritual fulfillment present in the Eucharist and sacraments. With the help of the Holy Spirit, we will become active disciples in God’s work through prayer, faith formation and our service to one another within the parish and the greater community.

Parish Mission

Frank RunyeonMonday, February 6 and Tuesday, February 7, St. John’s will be hosting actor, Frank Runyeon, for our Parish Mission. The Mission will be in the church at 7:00 p.m. on both evenings. Mr. Runyeon will also provide a play called Salt and Light, for our K-4 students, on Tuesday at noon in the church. We are encouraging all the families in our parish to participate in these two evenings and bring your children. This Mission is powerful and entertaining. Frank has won national acclaim for his work as a translator and performer of Biblical text over the past 20 years. He is a graduate of Princeton University with a degree in Religion. After studying acting in New York and Los Angeles for 15 years, he attended Fuller Seminary in Pasadena in preparation for the writing and performance of AFRAID, which will be presented Monday evening, February 6 in our church. He further refined the play, in study at Yale Divinity School and the General Theological Seminary, from which he received his Masters, with honors. He is currently working toward his doctorate in Biblical studies. He will also incorporate a thought-provoking talk on Hollywood vs. Faith after his play on Sermon on the Mount, Tuesday evening that is a wonderful message for teenagers. To preview his message go to his web page, www.runyeonproductions.com.

Pray-ers Needed

If you are looking for a church ministry you may want to consider joining those who lead the rosary 1/2 hour before each funeral.  The rosary is prayed before every funeral here at St. John's.  We are always in need of more pray-ers.

Chief's Receipts

Once again, Chief’s Supermarkets will give St. John’s money for each store receipt returned with the words "Community Cash" at the top.  Beginning September 1 through May, we will receive ˝ percent of the total amount on the receipt.  Receipts can be turned in at all three schools, at the Ministry Center and in the Sunday collection.  Please help us make the best out of this generous offer by a local business.

DSJ Annual Alumni Appeal is in Progress

The third Annual Alumni Appeal is in full swing.  Your generous donations may be designated between three areas of specific need: technology resources, student tuition assistance and the Teachers’ Endowment.  In addition, we have all been challenged by a generous Blue Jay.  We have set a goal of $50,000 for this campaign.  Any funds which we raise above that number will be matched by this donor.  Be sure to prayerfully consider what you can do to support the future of Delphos St. John’s School.  If you did not receive a letter and wish to participate in this campaign, please contact the Ministry Center at (419) 695-4050.

Divorced and Separated Retreat

A Divorced & Separated Retreat, "Becoming a Beloved Daughter or Son," will be held February 10-12, 2012, at Our Lady of Consolation Retreat House, 321 Clay St., Carey, Ohio.  Come and join retreat directors Joanne Cavedine, Karon Kujawa and Fr. Marty Nassr as we look into some of the untapped treasures of our Catholic Faith and rich spiritual heritage.  For information contact Monica Martinez at the Toledo Diocese Marriage and Family Life Office, 419-244-6711, Ext. 505 (or for outside Toledo but within Ohio, 1-800-926-8277, Ext. 505), or contact Brother Randy at Our Lady of Consolation Retreat House, 419-396-7970.

David Mary Engo, FFM, Superior of the Franciscan Brothers Minor in Fort Wayne; and Robert Rogers, author of "Into the Deep: one man’s story of how tragedy took his family but could not take his faith" and he uses his story to teach us to "Live a Life of No Regrets."  Confessions will be heard throughout the day.  The format is 10 men to a table with one of them being a facilitator from the Fort Wayne Diocese.  Cost is $35.00 per person and includes lunch and a $4.00 parking charge per vehicle.  Contact Gene Honigford at 419-203-5853 with any further questions.

Opportunity for Exploring Vocations

There are two upcoming opportunities that might be of interest to young men in our parish.  They are both opportunities to visit a seminary and see what life is like there.  On March 9-10, 2012 Mount Saint Mary Seminary in Cincinnati is hosting a "Welcome Weekend".  This overnight gathering will include prayer, a tour of the seminary, meals, information about the formation program, and a chance to see what life is like in the seminary.  April 26-28, 2012, The Pontifical College Josephinum in Columbus is hosting their "Come and See Live-In".  It begins at 4:00 Thursday and ends with lunch on Saturday.  This event includes a tour of the buildings and grounds, presentations about discernment and seminary life, meals, recreation time, prayer, and an opportunity to experience what daily seminarian life is like.  For more information about either of these opportunities, please contact Yvonne Dubielak, Associate Director of Vocations for the Diocese of Toledo at 419-244-6711, ext. 323 or ydubielak@toledodiocese.org.
