Happy Mother's Day

A MESSAGE FROM THE PASTOR...

How are we a voice of hope?  This question was posed in an article in Columbia magazine from The Knights of Columbus.  The article talks about how, as a priest, I am to be a voice of hope in a world that needs it.  I find this to be true, but I believe that should be the message of all of us who believe in Christ.  We all should ask, “How do I let my life express the hope that my faith gives me?”

This is a great question to ask ourselves.  It is a challenge along with an assessment of what we do in our lives.  Many times we get bogged down and become negative.  This is not the way of the gospel.  Christ is one who always helped to show hope.  Even as he approached the cross, he saw it as difficult, but also a way to offer life to others.  Hope is always there!

Where do we show hope to others in our lives?  Let’s make this hope that comes from God the center of what we do and who we are.

Spiritual Adoption Comes to an End

The High School Liturgy Team began the Spiritual Adoption Program in September.  All students in the high school have been praying a rosary for the unborn on the first Monday of month since it began.  The team offers special thanks to Sue McGue, who leads the rosary and to those parishioners who joined in.

As the program comes to an end, the Liturgy Team is collecting items that will be donated to Heartbeat of Lima.  There will be a playpen in the back of church during the weekends of May 16th and the 23rd.  Small diapers, toiletry items for a baby and the mom, formula and wipes are needed.  Monetary donations can be dropped off at the rectory.  Thank you to all of those who have participated in this special program with prayers and donations.

Interims Sent Home

Interim report cards were sent home with high school students last week.  If any parent has not received one, please contact the high school office.

Turn In Those Receipts

Do you know that your Chief Supermarket receipt can earn cash for St. John’s?  The company donates one percent of the total of all receipts back to the school.  But we don’t get the money unless receipts are turned in.  Only receipts showing the date can be accepted.  If customers want to hide credit card information that appears on the receipt please cross it out instead of cutting the receipt.  The program continues through May.

Retreat for Married Couples Cancelled

Due to low registration, the retreat for Married Couples scheduled for May 16-18 at Our Lady of Consolation, Carey, has been cancelled.
